However, having strong glutes comes with a whole list of benefits that have absolutely nothing to do with aesthetics and everything to do with health, performance, and longevity.

1. To Improve Athletic Performance

Running, jumping, swinging, driving with the legs, twisting at the hips, and quick changes in direction are all basic movements in most sports. What do all these patterns have in common? A need for power and stability in the glutes and hips!

Strong glutes are functional and transfer into your everyday life as well as sports performance.

2. They Help Prevent Injuries

We all know prevention is better than cure, and creating proper alignment and stability with your glutes and hip muscles can prevent injuries to your lower back, hips, knees, and ankles!

For example, weak glutes can often cause your knees to ‘cave in’ when lifting heavy, which can risk a knee or ankle injury. Building strength in your gluteus maximus and gluteus medius is key in avoiding this!

This point ties in with our previous point on preventing injuries… Sitting hunched at a desk all day can cause weak and underactive glutes, ultimately creating weak areas around your hips . Training and building strength in your glutes will help to ensure that your lower body and pelvis are in alignment, and in turn help to keep your shoulders, neck, and in good alignment (AKA, good posture).

Although you may not be concerned with this now, you will want to have a strong core and glutes as you age in order to live a more fulfilling life.
